World Kindness Day
World Kindness Day, observed on November 13, is a global event dedicated to promoting kindness and compassion. Established in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement, the day encourages people to perform acts of kindness, connect with others, and foster empathy in their communities. Whether through helping a stranger, volunteering, or simply sharing a kind word, World Kindness Day reminds us that small acts can make a big difference in creating a more compassionate world.

Week Without Violence
Week Without Violence is part of a global movement with YWCAs across the country and around the world to end violence against women and girls. At YWCA, we know that not all violence is acknowledged or responded to equally and that some victims go unrecognized altogether. That’s why, for more than 20 years, YWCA has set aside one week in October as a Week Without Violence. Join us as we raise awareness, elevate survivor voices, talk with policymakers, and more with a common goal: centering survivors so that together, we can end gender-based violence.
Domestic Violence Awareness Month
First observed in October 1981 as a national “Day of Unity,” Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) is held each October as a way to unite advocates across the nation in their efforts to end domestic violence.

Crime Victims' Vigil
Garfield Co. District Attorney’s Office will host their annual Crime Victims’ Vigil at YWCA Enid on April 25th during National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.
This powerful event provides crime victims with information about their rights and the many services available to them. An open speak out offers survivors an opportunity to share their stories.
Demin Day
Wear jeans with a purpose! Support survivors and increase awareness of sexual assault. Share your photos using #DenimDay2024 & #SAAM2024.
THE STORY BEHIND DENIM DAY:
In Rome in 1992, a 45-year-old driving instructor was accused of rape. When he picked up an 18-year-old girl for her first driving lesson, he allegedly raped her and told her that he would kill her if she told anyone. Later that night, she told her parents and pressed charges.
While the alleged rapist was convicted and sentenced, the Italian Supreme Court overturned the conviction in 1998 because the victim wore tight jeans.
It was argued that she must have had to help her attacker remove her jeans, thus making the act consensual. The Italian Supreme Court stated in its decision: “it is a fact of common experience that it is nearly impossible to slip off tight jeans, even partly, without the active collaboration of the person who is wearing them.”
This ruling sparked widespread protest. The day after the decision, women in the Italian Parliament protested by wearing jeans and holding placards that read “Jeans: An Alibi for Rape.”
Denim Day has been internationally celebrated since 1999.
